Ganesh Chaturthi Pooja
By gbhanu on Aug 23, 2009 | In Indian Festivals, India | 3 feedbacks »
Happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all!
The idol:
The Ganesh idol was handmade using terra cotta clay. Gold paint was rubbed onto his crown and some yellow paint for his dhoti and shawl.
The rangoli:
The outline of the rangoli was drawn with chalk which was later colored in using rangoli powders by my daughter. She seems to be doing better spreading the rangoli powder with her two fingers. You can see her in the picture adding glitter to the rangoli in the end.
The offerings:
We offered fruits, flowers, modakas and masala vadas to the lord.
My daughter enjoyed helping me make modakams for Lord Ganesh. It brought back my memories of helping my mom in the kitchen during festivals. My daughter thought the rice flour dough for the modakas was just like her play dough. We decorated the altar with fresh flowers from our garden.
Krishna Jayanthi

Gokulashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, a hindu god is celebrated on Thursday, Aug 13, 2009. It is also called as Krishna Jayanthi or Krishna Janmashtami and Shree Jayanthi amongst many names. Krishna was born sometime in the night and hence the pooja and celebrations is performed in the evening.
Lord Krishna was welcomed into our home wih a simple rangoli drawn with a lot of help from my 5-year old daughter. See the little feet drawn on the floor to show little Krishna coming into our house? Uppu Cheedai, Pal Kova, Curd and Milk was offered to Krishna in our home which are a few of Krishna’s favorites. We used baby Krishna idols, decorated with flowers(Kanakambaram and roses) from our garden and a kolam drawn on water(my first time). Happy Gokulashtami to all!

Happy Diwali to everyone! This is the festival of light celebrated for victory of good over evil all over India. The festival falls on Oct 27 and 28 this year. I had to fulfill a few Diwali card orders and hence made many different diwali cards and mailed a few of them to some of my family members. Here are a couple of my cards where the diya/lamp is my ink drawing enhanced with some color and/or glitter. Create and share something on this joyous occasion.
