Gokulashtami 2010

By gbhanu on Sep 1, 2010 | In Indian Festivals, India | 1 feedback »

We celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna late in the evening as Krishna was born at midnight. Started off making some sweet poha, thattai and payasam. We love uppu cheedai but did not want to risk making cheedai as it burst in oil last year. We then created a small Kolam and Krishna’s feet welcoming him into our house. The feet continued into our pooja area and you can see Kavya pointing to Kutti Krishna’s feet coming into our house to eat the scrumptous food prepared for him. We decorated the altar with Dahlia and Kanakambaram flowers from my garden.

It was a working day and so had to limit the food items this time. Here is a slightly better view of our pooja area.

Happy Krishna Jayanthi to all!

How to make a Ganesha - by a 6 year old

By gbhanu on Aug 30, 2010 | In Handmade Cards, Indian Festivals, India, Idols | 1 feedback »

The Ganesh idol is partly dry and hence looks blotchy but will even out once it is completly dry. I could not wait for it to dry to share this awesome creation with all.

Can you guess whose idol is going to be used in my house for Ganesh Chaturthi this year?

New Year Greetings 2010

By gbhanu on Dec 18, 2009 | In Handmade Cards | Send feedback »

Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

All the artwork for this new year greeting card was created by my daughter who turns 6 in February. For the base of the card, we repurposed an artwork that was created for a different project. A heavy cardstock was painted using different colors of acrylic paints. The dog(do you think it is a dog too?) with antlers was drawn and colored with crayons on a different cardstock and then glued onto the front of the card. The inside has some paint dabbed all over with her Kindergarten picture and greeting. For the finale, a custom stamp with one of my artwork was attached for postage.
